Service Description

Tooth extraction is a dental procedure performed to remove a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. It is typically carried out by a dentist or oral surgeon in cases where a tooth is severely damaged, decayed, infected, crowded, or causing other oral health issues. Tooth extraction may be necessary to alleviate pain, prevent the spread of infection, or create space for orthodontic treatment. The process of tooth extraction involves several steps. Prior to the procedure, the dentist will evaluate the tooth and take any necessary X-rays to assess its position and root structure. Local anesthesia or, in some cases, general anesthesia may be administered to ensure the patient's comfort throughout the procedure. There are two main types of tooth extraction: Simple Extraction: This procedure is performed when the tooth is visible above the gumline and can be easily accessed by the dentist. Using a specialized instrument called an elevator, the dentist loosens the tooth from its socket and then uses forceps to gently and carefully remove it. Local anesthesia is typically sufficient for simple extractions. Surgical Extraction: Surgical extraction is more complex and is performed when the tooth is impacted (partially or completely trapped below the gumline) or if the tooth has broken off at the gumline. In this case, the dentist may need to make an incision in the gum tissue and possibly remove bone around the tooth before extracting it. Surgical extractions may require general anesthesia or intravenous sedation to ensure the patient's comfort. After the tooth has been successfully extracted, the dentist will provide post-operative instructions to promote proper healing and minimize discomfort. These instructions may include recommendations for pain management, the use of ice packs to reduce swelling, avoiding certain foods and activities, and maintaining good oral hygiene practices. In some cases, after tooth extraction, the dentist may recommend tooth replacement options such as dental implants, bridges, or dentures to restore the appearance and function of the missing tooth. It's important to note that tooth extraction is generally considered a safe and routine dental procedure. However, as with any surgical intervention, there may be potential risks and complications, such as bleeding, infection, nerve damage, or dry socket. Dentists take necessary precaution to prevent or manage complications.
